Herbs do more than season your spagetti
Who could do a better job sharing reliable, important insight on herbal medicine than the National Institutes of Health? Their National Center on Complementary and Alternative Medicine commissioned Graves Fowler to help them publish a consumer-friendly guide, not a medical tome. The best news is that you can order the book for free.

Art Directors Club 59th Annual Show draws buzz with Graves Fowler promotions
The ADCMW Annual Show is a signature design event in the Washington, DC region. Here’s how the Art Directors Club describes their competition: “When you have the creative bug, there’s nothing more exciting than that moment when you capture on paper or pixel your incandescent idea… that shining example of your talent. When it happens, it can light up a room — or maybe even your client’s face. It can make you feel like a kid again — a kid who comes running home with a jarful of wonder.” Promotion materials and graphics for this year were lit up by Graves Fowler Creative.

Resource book for American Psychiatric Association organized around career needs
APA knows that members with 20-year careers under their belts have different needs from student members. They have wisely created a resource guide to address that difference. With a smaller, more portable format and content organized around early, mid- and late career interests and concerns, the new APA Resource Guide designed by Graves Fowler is a hit.

Ask your patients. Tell your doctor. Communicate!
Vitamins, aspirin, yoga, acupuncture, exercise. Almost everyone uses some kind of alternative medical treatment to maintain health. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine has launched a campaign to make sure that doctors and patients are talking about that to each other so they can create smart, safe healthcare plans together. Graves Fowler partnered with GYMR Public Relations to develop the name, strategy and communications tools for the Time to Talk Campaign. The exhibit is touring trade conferences now.

With many new amenities, Merriweather’s music producers, IMP Inc., set the challenge before us to attract a wider range of ages and musical tastes to this well-known outdoor venue. Music is center stage—always—at the Pavilion and on the new Web site. Patrons can enjoy cutting edge bands as well as the finest symphony orchestra performances.

Step One: Open the Book
What makes a 7th or 8th grader who is behind in reading open a book? Sundance/Newbridge Publishing has just released a new series that will tweak the curiosity of the most stubborn non-readers. TAKE 2: Fact and Fiction books come in pairs: One book is a great story and one is a did-you-know book. For example, Howl comes with How to Behave in the Animal Kingdom. Graves Fowler created the covers using captivating illustrations by Ricardo Tercio for the fictional tales and stunning photos for their non-fiction partners.

“Cover All Children” rings loud and clear on the Hill
In early March, over 400 members of the PICO National Network lobbied Congress to win health insurance for all children. They held press conferences, rallies and met with almost 100 members of Congress and staffers. Vigils, congressional call-ins and other events across the country followed during the month, organized by local PICO affiliates and partnering organizations. Graves Fowler designed the banners, placards and badges to support and brand these events for PICO. As April began, the Senate Budget Committee approved $50 billion in new funding for children's health. We hope a big win for children is on the way.

That’s what Straughan Environmental Services is all about. This engineering company is dedicated to environmental planning for a sustainable world.

Graves Fowler developed Straughan’s branding and has just launched a new Web site for them that explains their mission and work.

Faith Shaping the Future
FADICA (Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and is using the occasion to launch an ambitious development/membership campaign.

Graves Fowler is providing FADICA with the promotion materials needed to carry out this effort. When we asked what makes FADICA special, the instant answer was that their members are at the core of their organization—a strong community that’s like a family. So we let members tell the story. Photos, interviews and images of the hands that will “shape” the future of the organization—create a celebration of 30 years of accomplishment and build excitement about what lies ahead.

August 06 -
Teamwork Makes Our Dream Work
National Industries for the Blind empowers people who are blind to work with little, if any, government assistance. The program also enables the federal government to purchase quality products and services. It’s a dream team idea. For the organization’s 2006 conference, Graves Fowler helped NIB celebrate its leadership with “sports” themed materials that included a fun set of “trading cards.”

But the California Catholic Conference has launched a new Web site that will do just that. RestoreJustice.com offers healing and hope for everyone who has been impacted by the criminal justice system.

Graves Fowler worked with representatives of each interest group to ensure that the content and design would welcome all. Video clips throughout the site tell powerful first-person stories. A searchable database offers local, state and national resources and accepts online entries.

Improving the Nation’s Health
The public health issues facing our nation and world can sometimes be staggering. Costs to confront these issues are staggering, too. Fortunately, Grantmakers in Health (GIH) exists to help foundations and corporate giving programs fund work on pressing health issues wisely and effectively.

Graves Fowler has begun working with GIH to fine tune their branding in print publications. This month, GIH is hosting an important meeting with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta that will bring together leading public health experts and grantmakers who make their work possible. The meeting announcement is our first assignment completed with GIH.

Law schools educators get a brandlift
The Association of American Law Schools (AALS) has a respected reputation—but its branding was strictly old school. Over the past year, Graves Fowler has helped AALS improve its messaging and establish a new identity program. Our goal was to reposition AALS as a forward-thinking, innovative catalyst for quality education. With the relaunch of www.aals.org in mid-December, this phase of work is complete. Evaluation and progress checks will follow to verify the impact and help them keep on track. Stay tuned!

A recent Town Hall meeting in Sacramento drew over 4,000 concerned citizens and all the movers and shakers from the state government.

It’s a big job dealing with alcohol, tobacco and firearms law enforcement—and now terrorism. But the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is charged with these enormous responsibilities. ATF asked Graves Fowler to help them communicate just how they will carry out their mission in the coming years. We developed a vision book and poster to bring their work to life.

November & December 04 -
What do Kennedy, Reagan, Nixon and Clinton have in common?
Not much, really—except that their collections of Presidential records are all administered by the National Archives. This prestigious, but nearly invisible library system needed branding. By linking all ten libraries with an identity and developing a strategic approach to communication materials, both the central Office of Presidential Libraries and the individual libraries will enjoy increased awareness and support. Graves Fowler provided the analysis and creative work. The logo is done. Print materials are in development now.

Each year we have assisted them in presenting their story with increasing message clarity and content organization. Their most recent Annual Report is fresh off the press!

CRDF was established by the National Science Foundation in 1995. It is a unique public-private partnership that works to:

Challenges and Choices
That’s the theme of the this year’s annual report for the Great Valley Center of Modesto, California. And it sums up their work perfectly. GVC is more than a think-tank or a foundation. It fearlessly articulates the Valley’s problems. Then it brings resources and leadership together to work on real solutions for this diverse and rapidly-growing part of California.

Graves Fowler has helped GVC develop the look and messaging of their print communications including annual reports, program publications and conference marketing materials. The tone is vintage California with a distinctly modern twist—just like the Valley.
